Venice I

It feels so good to be home! I spent the weekend catching up on sleep, seeing friends and trying to get my cellphone fixed after I very cleverly blanked on my pin number. It's all sorted now though and I'm slowly starting to feel like I'm getting back into the swing of things.

Anyway, onto my holiday! I had the most magnificent time in Venice, I was a bit worried before we left because many people told me it was an overcrowded and smelly city but they just weren't looking in the right places. We stayed in Dorsoduro, one of the oldest parts of Venice, which is within walking distance of the major hubs like Rialto Bridge and Piazza San Marco but just far enough away to ensure it's not completely overrun by tourists.

Our ten days, two of which we spent in Verona and Bologna respectively, were spent walking, eating, drinking, sleeping, shopping and were just generally filled with the merriment of a not completely planned out holiday. Lunch usually consisted of a piece of pizza bought from a local vendor and the two of us sitting on a secluded bridge stuffing our faces, feeding pigeons and resting our weary feet. Supper was always some kind of pasta; spaghetti, ravioli, gnocchi, tagliatelle... you name it, I ate it and I indulged in it! We did so much walking during the day that were wasn't much guilt left in me come dinner time.

These photos are a mixture of all our days in Venice and they were all taken by Jean. I wandered around with an old Pentax and I've got about 3 rolls of film to show for it. The analogue images will only make their way onto here in a few weeks time but in between then and now I'll have some glimpses of Verona and maybe a shot or two of the Doge's Palace to share with you all.
