Time of Change

In my last year of high school I studied the American civil rights movement in depth. It's always been a fragment of history that has intrigued me. These photographs by Bruce Davidson are still relevant today. Their pertinence and emotional power lies with their depiction of everyday folk.

The period from 1961 - 1965 was the defining era of the American civil rights movement. As a participant and observer of this struggle for racial equality, Bruce Davidson chronicled the demonstrations, the protests, the aftermath of the bombings, and the social and political tumult that arose out of the conflict. "Time of Change" is a testament to the everyday lives of the people who fought against accepted social norms of segregation, poverty, and discrimination.

Dalena Vintage

I'm always looking for inspiration for the shop; something to get me motivated and excited to come up with new ideas. Dalena Vintage's collection of lookbooks and just their entire shop and the way they present themseleves is doing just that. Based in Austin, Texas and run by stylist Leslie Torbett this shop is definitely going on my inspiration list.

Updates.

Exams are over! I did absolutely nothing this past weekend and it was magical. I do still want to be productive these holidays though; my goal is to add loads of new stock to the shop. First things first, I needed to make space in my storage room (aka my bedroom) and so I've marked over 40 items down by 20%. You can find them here if you'd like.



About two weeks ago as a part of my study procrastination I set up an inspiration tumblr for the shop. It's definitely worked by inspiring me (and aiding in my procrastination). I've built up a nice collection of images from the 20s to the 60s that can be found here.

Grace of Monaco

This past Saturday I took a much needed extended study break and went to see Grace of Monaco. It was interesting in that it was about events in Grace Kelly's life that I hadn't heard of before and didn't focus on the controversy of her death, something I was anxious about before we went to see it.

Overall it seems to have gotten mixed reviews but I think it's difficult to please all especially when you're depicting someone who's so well known. Nicole Kidman often feels a bit contrived as the princess but I'd still recommend watching this if only for the clothes and the scenery.

Mayflower Spring Lookbook

Just as we're heading into the throes of Winter, yet another exquisite lookbook appears from the North. It makes my heart so sad because I love it and I hate it (but I love it). I've gushed about Mayflower Supply before on this here blog and they just keep getting better.
