This week has been crazy and it's only Wednesday! I have rehearsals every day and most of the time I find myself spending over eleven hours at school. Goodness gracious! So I'm sorry if posting around here gets a bit sporadic, only two more weeks of school and then it's the Easter holidays! (:

I know it's a bit late now as my birthday is this Saturday and the South African Postal Service needs at least two months to get something shipped in but it was still fun nevertheless to compile a list of pretty things. I felt quite materialistic at first when I was doing this but then I realised it's just a small scale version of what I use this blog for. So, hey maybe I'm just a materialistic person (eek!). I have a sneaky suspicion I might be getting one or two of those books and then I think as a birthday gift to myself I'm gonna splurge on that cream crocheted dress.

I meant to post this little round up of pretty clothes yesterday but I got a bit caught up. I spent the day yesterday at my top-choice college for next year pretending to be a first year student for the day (don't ask me how I managed it, my mom knows too many people) and I had an absolute ball! I knew it was were I wanted to go but yesterday just confirmed it for me (: So excited! Now I just have to audition, hope that I'll get in and then wade through the rest of this school year.

Quite an apt name for a Valentine's post don't you think? This post doesn't really have anything to do with Valentine's Day anyway so you don't have to start getting too worried about my potential stalking habits (can you tell I'm single or?..)

The stalking part has to do with when I took my camera with me a few months back and took some borderline creepy photo's of people's houses in one of my favourite neighbourhoods, Kalk Bay. I've talked about my love for this place a few times before.

Luckily about a five minute walk from my house we have a huge open field filled with Willow Trees and little streams that attract all kinds of interesting insects. It's the best place to take refuge for a few hours.

I cannot believe it's February! Heck, yesterday my friends & I started making plans for Valentine's Day already!

I got the year off to a pretty good start as I managed to read five books this January. Yup. Five. It may not be a lot for some of you but for one of those people who is known for never actually finishing a book and committing the ultimate sin of leaving a book halfway through (horrid, I know) it's quite a big deal.

Sometimes you find out about things just a little bit too late. Cat's Let nothing darken their roar is definitely one of these things. Every year only 700 of these magnificent calendars get printed and this year they were all sold before the first week of January came to a close. At any given time I'll be obsessed with a city. These past few months have left me daydreaming about NYC so when I found Stanley Kubrick's photos of the city in the 40s I was bouncing off the walls. This is how I picture New York in my mind which I know is unhealthy 'cause one day when I do find myself across the pond I'll be a little disappointed.. I could always invent a time machine.

Often, the toughest mission of my year can be finding the perfect diary to keep track of my crazy antics. This year, however, I was lucky enough to find a diary I fell in love with, something that will actually make organizing my life seem fun. I mean, let's face it, we all prefer to write in things if they look pretty and maybe they're not super practical but small things like that can be overlooked.

There is one problem though; it's the second day of the new year & I haven't actually ordered my beloved diary yet... not the smartest thing I've ever done I admit it but I'll just have to wait a few weeks (thanks to the fact that I live in South Africa aka Narnia) before I can get my hands on it. Until then, I'll ogle over it's beauty through my computer screen.

I cannot believe that I didn't blog for over a month & that I didn't let any of you know where I went but I was snowed down with school work & with 15 exams to write my brain sort of went into overload for a while. I wrote my last one today & I cannot be more ecstatic now that they're over! All that thinking really just makes you tired.

It's December already & that means Summer over here in South Africa & I'm definitely getting all inspired by David West's new collection. I just want all the subdued colours & every white dress I can get my hands on.

Summer also means Christmas in this crazy country so I'm off to make paper snowflakes (completely juxtaposed with the season I know but it's the thought that counts) and maybe even some harry potter themed ornaments for the tree.

Marc Jacobs' latest collection for Louis Vutton has me all kinds of happy. I'm back to share some pretty clothes with you this Sunday courtesy of Cape Town based label, Mint. Their Spring/Summer collection has me itching to get to the beach, eat ice-cream & just do anything Summer related.

That first image reminded me of the circus, or the way I like to envision it in my mind. I often get on a high horse about animal cruelty when someone brings up the topic of the circus & as much as I enjoyed the acrobatics as a child I couldn't get over the fact that they were using real animals. I've been introduced to the next best thing though, Madame Zingara, which according to some is just the circus without animals and far more extravagant costumes.

I thought I'd get out my camera and divulge my love of vintage with you all. Luckily, my mom is as obsessed as I am with pieces of a bygone era. She bought me the vintage globe in the first two pictures.

My mom & I also managed to find these beautifully covered classics. Some silly person thought it'd be good to buy no.9 out of the set so we were left with an incomplete collection but for just R1 each (that's $1.25 for all nine of them!) they were indeed worth it.

Some new additions to my vintage heels collection. They all hurt like hell but they look pretty.

& some snaps replenishing the stock of fresh flowers in my room.

Bambi shot by Tim Barber for Muse Magazine found via one of my latest blogging finds, Thunder in our Hearts who happens to be a fellow South African. I get so giddy when I come across other locals in the blogosphere and then I get even happier when they post things as gorgeous as these!

I know it's quite a photo filled post but I really couldn't narrow down my favourites any more, I loved everything!

I for one would love a little shack a hop skip and a jump outside of Paris to run away to on a lazy day. I'm not too sure designer couple Jérôme Dreyfuss and Isabel Marant would want to share their little gem with a smelly seventeen year old but I can always hope, right?

My mother and I religiously watch Man Shops Globe together so it's no surprise I adore Anthropologies items. These pieces by Kylie Johnson really caught my eye, I love the idea of crockery that gives you a little life lesson.

Living in South Africa, we get to experience a mild form of Winter compared to most other places, but when that time of year rolls around I find myself dressed in scarves, boots, jackets, beanies etc and end up getting a few odd glances from others because frankly, it isn't that cold. Just once, I wanna find myself actually needing all the layers of clothing I so often adorn in Winter.

I am in absolute adoration of her work and just with how relaxed it feels. I'm also loving the quirky touch of adding silly stickers to film prints. That's definitely something I did when I was younger.

The Language of Flowers

A few weeks back (I can't believe it's been so long already) some of my amazing friends bought me the prettiest bouquet of flowers to celebrate the last night of my school's run of Hairspray. I didn't have a big enough space in my room to put the whole bunch so I separated them up into little bundles and popped them into little glass bottles.

There is just something about having flowers in a room that puts me in a good mood. I'm also now in love with carnations & definitely need to try my hand at growing my own.

A few Fridays ago I headed over to the blue bird garage, a local night market filled to the brim with culinary goodness. My taste buds had never been happier!

The band was awesome, I'm almost certain the singer was Bob Marley's long lost twin and I walked home with delicious home made chocolate truffles. What more could a girl want?

I have a few links for some of the traders I met that night, I'll try share some of their stuff later on in the week.

I see so many amazing photo's on flickr and tumblr that when I actually recognize the scenery in photo's I had previously been purely enjoying the beauty of, my heart does a little dance. That's what happened when I saw Kent Andreasen's work. His photo's are superb and he captures light brilliantly but what I love the most is that I'm able to name almost all the places in his photo's. It makes you feel just that much more connected to the pictures.

In other news my school's production of Hairspray has come to a close & I'm slowly but surely easing back into my previous life. It feels as if I've been gone from reality for so long.

I'm loving the eerie feeling in these photo's by Kalaija. You don't see a face in any of them yet they express so much emotion.

The rain is bucketing down outside as I'm wrapped up in layers of comfy clothes with my cup of coffee. How are you all spending your Thursday? I'm sure most of you have been out enjoying the Summer sunshine in the Northern Hemisphere. This morning we had an awful scare with one of my dogs and had to rush him to the vet but it looks as if he'll get back to his normal, crazy self in no time. Maybe it was just the cold weather getting to him..

You also may have noticed that the blog has undergone a complete transformation. If you check out my twitter you'll know I've been aching for a change around here for quite some time. I'm rather pleased with how it turned out although I will still be making a few more changes over the coming days. If you lovelies have any recommendations do let me know. I'm a little worried the font might be too small on some computers.

When contemplating what to post today I couldn't stop pairing these pictures by Zoë with the artwork of Caitlin Foster.

They don't have much in common in the conventional sense to be perfectly honest but I quite like that. I just couldn't stop thinking about posting them together. Nevertheless, be sure to check out each girls work, they're both so talented!

Here are a few of the final pics of the shoot I posted a preview of over here. Michelle and Eden were so much fun to work with. We spent the misty Saturday morning laughing with one another and gushing over our shared love of vintage. It's always such a treat when you find others who appreciate the same things you do.

I'm sorry if things get a bit sporadic over here for the rest of the month; it's opening night of my school's production of Hairspray in just over a week and I'll only be getting home super late for the next three weeks or so but I'll be sure to pop in here as often as I can.
