Orion's Cuff

I have been having a long term love affair with Of a Kind that I had yet to share with this wee ol' blog. I was just waiting for the right moment to make the announcement and seeing the Orion's Cuff I knew the time was nigh. This is one piece of jewellery that I might actually remove an arm and a leg for although then I'd be one hand short to wear the magnificent cuff on but what the heck, it'd be worth it. Wearing a constellation on my wrist is most definitely something I want to do.

Of a Kind is one of the most unique sites in that it's products are unique. They find new designers and sell limited numbers of each piece. Most of the time there will probably be between 20 - 60 other people out there who have the same item as you.

this time last year

I recently had a roll of film developed of photos that I took around this time last year. The river is the Breede and the photos were taken from the lawn of the holiday house we go to every few years. It is absolute bliss out there. Not a soul in sight and at night you see more stars than you ever thought possible. The little creatures can be found at the Swellendam Fairy Sanctuary which is a mystical place I wish I had found ten years ago when I was in the height of my fairy obsession. The other photos are of arbitrary places around Cape Town.

Today my mom and I are heading off for a mini holiday in the country and I'm taking my film camera with me again, hopefully this time it won't take me a year to get things developed.

Into The Desert

The latest lookbook by Epokhe eyewear found via blooming leopold.

The aesthetic of this lookbook is far different to what I'm normally drawn to but the stark contrast of the models and the desert background filled with a millenium of copper tones and open spaces has me wishing I was taking a trip into the middle of nowhere. Or it could just be the fact that they're wearing knee-high socks and heels in possibly the most inappropriate of settings that makes it fantastic.

lilac hair

There's nothing like some lilac hair to get this week off to a good start. Emily Dahl is a Stockholm native who spends her days documenting the adventures of herself and her hair (the hair is so brilliant it deserves to be a separate entity).

I don't know if I could ever take the plunge and dye my hair something as extravagant as this but it sure is good to look at pictures of people who are far braver than I am in this department.

Babette

Babette is another local fashion brand that is making a scene (in a good way).

I first saw the brand last year when I was at the Grahamstown Festival and was instantly enamoured. Barbara Lötter, the mastermind behind it all, takes vintage items and reworks them into more modern styles that flatter the figure. The idea in itself is genius, especially with a countrywide fascination with antiquated clothing, but the best part is that the clothes don't look like they've been torn apart and put back together again; they still maintain the vintage charm we're all looking for and love.
