a new year

2013 will be the first year out of the past twelve that I won't be spending in a schooling system. This New Years is possibly the most significant New Years I've experienced because of this and the fact that the coming twelve months will be entirely different to any others I've encountered.

I haven't made any definite resolutions this time although I do have ideas on what I'd like to do over the next 365 days but I think my main goal is to explore and allow myself to experience as much as possible.

I hope you all have a lovely New Years and we shall see each other on the flipside.

the night before christmas

The festivities are almost upon us and I am just getting more excited by the minute. This is definitely my favourite time of year. I think over the next week or so I'll take a mini break from blogging (and the computer in general) to spend time with friends and family as we relax in the summer sun.

Today is my nephews birthday and we're having family over for dinner accompanied by some birthday cake and then after that I'm gonna curl up in bed and watch The Family Stone. How are you spending your Christmas Eve?

I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas tomorrow!

The Dying Swans

Once again Marie Zucker graces us with her exceptional talent. This time she's combined with New York based illustrator, Katy Smail to give us an editorial far different to others floating around the interwebs right now.

flowers are the things we know, secrets are the things we grow

Amy + Makers

We're all a bit in love with Amy. It's okay to admit it. The girl just oozes cool. I even talked about my love for her earlier in the year and now that the The Makers have given us a look into her studio space I think we should band together as bloggers to celebrate her existence. That is all.

Birds of Eden

This time last week I said I'd be bringing you a few photos from my holiday in a day or two. Well, that day or two turned into a week but nevertheless the photos are finally here.

Sunday before last my family visited Birds of Eden (it's just outside of Plett for those local readers) and my oh my was it the most amazing experience.

Birds of Eden is the world's largest free flight bird sanctuary. The dome is 50 metres high and covers 23 000 square meters of forest. There is a 2km long boardwalk that guides you through the trees. As I said in this tweet it was like spending a morning in a tropical wonderland that was mildly covered in bird poop.

As you can tell from the lack of birds in these pictures I obviously don't have a future in wildlife photography but don't let that fool you, the place was filled with exotic flying creatures.

I'm really loving the flower crown in these photos despite the fact that flower crowns are absolutely everywhere you look. I'm thinking I might need one for the summer months. Maybe I shall attempt making one this weekend. Hmmm. What are your plans for this weekend?

Married in the rain

I've started having a recurring dream (nightmare) that on my wedding day the heaven's open and the worlds greatest thunderstorm ensues leaving me in dismay with no clue how to fix the situation. I don't know what I'm more scared of when it comes to this dream; the fact that it might come true or the fact that I'm already having nightmares about my hypothetical wedding that will hopefully only take place in at least another ten years or so. I think it's safe to say I'm a worrier.

That's why this wedding has me not only in aw at it's beauty but also sighing in relief. A plan can be made and your day can still be special even if the weather gods are not on your side.

I probably should start worrying about world politics and the education crisis instead of having things like this keep me up at night. Oops.
