Sadly I haven't really stuck to the internet free weekend and I really don't feel as guilty as I should about it. Oops.

I'm embarking on something a little different - an internet free weekend. I'd love to say by choice but it hasn't turned out that way. My father hasn't yet jumped onto the uncapped bandwagon which means almost every month I'm a terrible daughter and use up his 5gigs. This month being no exception. As I type this post, I'm at my moms place with my endless internet but you all will only see this on Friday when I will be without the wonders of the web, hopefully reading a book or walking the dogs.

A lucky girl

Something absolutely wonderful arrived in the mail just the other day. Something that made me squeal like a little girl.









The girls I shall forever be in debt to are Jo & Laura of Sparkapolooza. They sent me this copy of Spaces by Frankie Magazine after I had the lucky comment on their blog in a giveaway.

I have yet to read the book cover to cover. I'm taking it slowly, making sure I don't rush things as I'm not quite sure what I'm going to do once it ends. I just want to say thank you, thank you, thank you to Jo & Laura for such a wonderful gift and the sweet little postcard they sent with it complete with a list of Aussie things I'd adore.

In other news my photography has been featured over on a South African site, Tjill, accompanied by a little interview. I hope I don't sound too silly although I doubt many of my international readers will understand it since it's in Afrikaans.

Enjoy the rest of your day all, I'm off to have supper and then later on rest in front of the tv with a chocolate brownie and a cup of tea. The perfect end to a day I think.

Photography seems to be going well at the moment. This week alone I've been interviewed and contacted about a paid shoot. I'll tell you more about both of these when I can (:

Indian

I have always had this fascination with 'Red' Indians (I'm not sure if I'm allowed to use that term) and I'm sure I've mentioned that before on here.

The other day I was browsing the shelves of my favourite second hand bookshop when I came across a childrens book entitled "Folk Tales of the North American Indian." I didn't buy it as I was saving my money for the thrift store but I might go back in the next day or two to get it. I hope it's still there!

Today was the first day back at school, the start of a new school year down here in the Southern Hemisphere. It went quite well, I stayed in the top class which is a huge relief because for a few seconds I feared I may have dropped. One of my great friends Michael, who I baked the cake for, moved up four classes to find himself in the second highest class. I feel like a proud mother! :D

Whenever illustrators incorporate cute little farm animals into their work it's almost a done deal that I'll like it. I'm such a sucker for a deer or even a duck. Hell, I need to find someone who draws little piggies, how cute would they be?

new work

A few new pictures I took of Ashleigh last Monday. You can head on over to my flickr if you wanna see some more.

I go back to school this Monday and so technically yesterday was my last day of holiday. A very sad thought.

I've bought all my school books, pens, pencils, thousands of sticky notes as I always do and I'm going to spend the rest of today wrapping and packing up all my stationery and sewing some more buttons on to my school dress as they like to fall off at the worst possible occasion.

Portraits

The truth is I could spend my life scrolling through the archives over at Miss Moss' space. Everything she posts is gorgeous. I got so excited when she posted these as I knew they would be a definite keeper.

She combines wonderful vintage photographed portraits with vintage paintings. Brilliant.

nudes

I have a little book inside my head with all my fashion dos and donts in it and one of the ever present dos is nudes. And no I'm not saying walk around starkers which is what my ten-year-old self thought when coming across the saying for the first time. Nudes are always good; Summer, Winter, Autumn, Spring. Well good for me 'cause I know many people wouldn't wear them in Autumn and Winter but here in South Africa we don't really have much of either of those seasons.

Barcelona

I haven't shared it with you all yet but everybody that has come within a 10m radius of me over the past few months will have heard about my new found love for Barcelona.

I don't know what it is about the city but I just keep gravitating towards it when trying to decide where to travel (not that I'm going anywhere soon, unfortunately). I'm planning on spending a year in Europe once I matriculate, probably au-pairing or picking apples or doing whatever odd end jobs I can find.

Just a picture or two of the cake I told you all about the other day. Ashleigh (pictured) and I had so much fun baking this, it was crazy. It was the first ever cake I had baked and I had to say it tasted quite nice, well after you peeled off the thick layer of icing (:
